Stylish 80's Costume Ideas for 2012-2013

    ADAM ANT

Adam Ant was always known for his incredible style in the 80's.  Adam Ant in his military and pirate garb in the following pics.  Definitely a couple of my favorite 80's costume ideas this year along with Cyndi Lauper and MC Hammer.

    MICHAEL JACKSON

With the passing of Michael Jackson, may he RIP, it's no secret 80's Michael Jackson costumes have popped up everywhere.  The following are my favorite Michael Jackson costume ideas for this year.

    Bad

    Man in the Mirror

    Dirty Diana

    Billy Jean

    Thriller

    PRINCE

Prince was known for his classy, unique, and immaculate style in the 80's.  He had (and still has)  a very romantic, confident, and sexy persona.

    BON JOVI

Of all the popular metal "hair bands" of the eighties, Bon Jovi by far had the best style.  Either they have amazing taste, or they had an amazing fashion stylist in the day; whatever it is they definitely knew how to dress, very cool and well thought out. Not to mention, great hair.

    MOTLEY CRUE

    EDDIE VAN HALEN

Hey if you've got the suspenders, the guitar, and the bod why not rock this Eddie- style. Pretty damn cute if you ask me.

    GUNS N ROSES

    MC HAMMER

    DUCKY- PRETTY IN PINK

    BILLY IDOL

    VAN HALEN

WORST 80's fashion- I just don't know what to say.  Way over the top..it's great to be crazy and out there, I love that.  However, even so, fashion still has to make sense, and this just doesn't.

80's Hairstyles- The hair was big, very big and if it went flat you headed off to the bathroom immediately with your can of super hold Aquanet or Paul Mitchell Freeze because there was nothing worse, or more out of style than flat hair.

The hair was teased to death and spiked with a ton of gel and hairspray.  And if you knew how to achieve a major wind blown effect by using a blowdryer, or better yet, your hair resembled a wild animal, then all the better.  Unless it rained because then your hair would just became a big glob of glue and you would have to wash it and start completely over- not good to get rained on.

Damien- Carney-stylist- Flock of Seagulls Style that is totally hot now

80's Makeup- Eighties makeup was heavy.  Not so much because we wanted to hide behind it (although maybe just a tad), but because we wanted to stand out.  Everything on the face was accentuated with makeup.  I absolutely loved doing my makeup from my cat-like eyes; blush to accentuate the cheekbones big time; to lip liner and perfectly shaped cherry red lips.  I felt pretty powerful all done up from head to toe, and like I could totally rule the world!

Typical 80's Costumes Available in Costume Shops- As you may have  witnessed, the typical 80's costumes available in costume shops are too often unoriginal, generic,  and cheaply made.  There's also that chance someone else is going to show up with the same 80's  costume which would be not so great.

It's no secret that 80's fashion is totally hot right now, and is why eighties theme parties are the #1 type of theme party to throw (search7.com). My name is Renee Boley, and I'm a fashion designer.  I grew up in the eighties (class of 89), in Beverly, MA (20 min. N. of Boston) where fashion was a very important and fun part of a teens life.

80's Fashion-We LOVED to express ourselves and our own unique personalities in the 80's with what we wore.  We cut, ripped, painted, bleached, tied, pinned, layered, strapped, whatever it took to make our look completely uncontrolled and totally sexy.

80's Costumes and Costume Ideas with a fresh new spin- I spent quite some time looking for the right 80's costumes and costume ideas to include in this article.  I chose the following styles because they were not only in high fashion during the 80's, but have come back into high fashion right now--fall of 2010!   As you probably know, fashion never comes back exactly the same.  High fashion should always have a fresh new twist that makes the style pop now.

Below are photos of authentic 80's fashion. We may also give tips on how you can take the styles and make them fresh and hot for today.
